İngilizlerin en eski destanı olarak bilinen 'Beowulf' güçlü bir İskandinav (Geat) savaşçısını konu edinir. Dizinin ismi de buradan gelmiştir. Beowulf, cesaret, hırs, ihanet, intikam, sadakat, güç ve aşk gibi duyguları içinde barındırır. Kötülerle savaşan kahramanların hikayesidir. Dizide Beowulf'un hikayesi anlatılır. Hikaye mitoloji çağında Shieldlands denilen bölgede geçer. Grendel" adında, gürültüye tahammül edemeyen bir canavar Danimarkalıların başına musallat olmuş ve insanları öldürmektedir. Grendel'in heryere yayılmış ününü duyan Geatler'in ünlü savaşçısı Beowulf, Grendel'i öldürmek için Danimarka'ya gider.
